Matthew Steven Bracey

Matthew Steven Bracey and his wife, Sarah, live in Cross Plains, Tennessee. They attend Sylvan Park Free Will Baptist Church. Matt works at Welch College, where he serves as the Vice Provost for Academic Administration, the Associate Professor of Theology and Culture, and the Program Coordinator for the Master of Arts in Humanities. He holds degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (PhD, ThM), Cumberland School of Law (JD), Beeson Divinity School (MTS), and Welch College (BA). He received his PhD in Christian Ethics and Public Policy after defending a dissertation entitled “Edmund Burke’s Moral Imagination: Interpretation and Cultivation.”

He is a co-founder and senior editor of the Helwys Society Forum (thehsf.com). He is an editor and/or contributor of several books, including Teacher, Scholar, Shepherd (Randall House Academic, 2024), Christians in Culture (Welch College Press, 2023), Secularism and the American Republic by F. Leroy Forlines (Welch College Press, 2022), The Promise of Arminian Theology (Randall House Academic, 2016), and Sexuality, Gender, and the Church (Welch College Press, 2016).

He has published a number of peer-reviewed articles and/or book reviews in journals such as the Biblical Higher Education Journal, D6 Family Ministry Journal, Evangelical Quarterly, Integrity, and The Southern Baptist Journal of Theology, as well as popular articles in publications like Books at a Glance, Christian Academia Magazine, FUSION, ONE Magazine, and The Brink Magazine. His interests include running, politics, country life, and the arts.
